What could be more alluring to supermarket shoppers than continuous price cuts? It would be price cuts on healthy food.
Aldi, the cheapest supermarket in the UK that has pushed other fresh promotions such as its Super 6, this week released a list of 55 fresh produce items with reduced prices.
Led by Cotton Candy Grapes other Specialty Selected products, Aldi’s extensive reductions hit on everything from Asparagus Bundles to Unwaxed Lemons – an astounding one-third of its entire range. Although many of those cost cuts are just a few pence, collectively the items are priced 11% lower.
“Our promise to our customers is that we will always keep our prices as low as possible,” Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said. “We remain fiercely committed to doing that – now and always. This latest price drop is part of our efforts to make healthy, high-quality groceries accessible to everyone. That will always be our mission, and it’s why we continue to see shoppers switch to Aldi.”
The most significant savings are on a few items: a 500g package of Brussels Sprouts (-36p), Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples (-20p), Mango and Pineapple chunks (-20p), Melon Medley (-20p) and Baby Spinach (-20p). Most are around 10p.
With 1,000 supermarkets in the UK and still growing, Aldi is winning market share and becoming a must shop for cost-conscious consumers. Price matches at competitors can’t equal the savings shoppers are enjoying on average baskets – with Aldi more than £14 cheaper than Waitrose, for example.
