More than two million children have taken part in Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh campaign over the past nine years. That figure includes three young artists this year who will see the fruits of their labour inspiring fellow schoolkids to stay healthy in a really brilliant way.

The trio – 10-year-old Joshua from Manchester, 13-year-old Victoria from Edinburgh, and 13-year-old Sara from Barry – will have their drawings from a nationwide contest emblazoned on the sides of lorries that deliver fresh produce and other items to Aldi stores.

The colourful and healthful messaging helped earn them a £100 Aldi voucher along with goody bags from Team GB and ParalympicsGB, who helped promote the events at their schools.

Athletes Melanie Woods, Sam Cross and Emily Campbell were on hand to give them those rewards, and they held Q&A sessions with students on their training regimens, their eating habits and what it’s like to be an athlete. Each of the student’s schools received £1,000 for their efforts.

“The Design a Lorry competition is part of our collaborative efforts with Team GB and ParalympicsGB to promote healthy eating among young people,” Jemma Townsend, Marketing Director at Aldi, said. “We had more than 12,000 amazing entries, but Joshua, Victoria and Sara’s designs really stood out to our judges. We are looking forward to seeing these eye-catching designs on the roads, inspiring people to eat more fresh, healthy food.”

Children ages 5 through 14 across the UK were asked to come up with the artwork, which had to include fresh fruits and/or vegetables. The campaign is one of many in the UK to try to get families – and especially parents with children – to try to get closer to the recommended portions of fresh produce each day.

Aldi’s Get Set to Eat Fresh programme is one of the best for educators, providing resources to teachers on helping children and caregivers the healthiest options, as well as skills needed to cook for themselves. Those resources can be found at getseteatfresh.co.uk.
