Jupiter Group says it will be trialling six new varieties of South African plums in the Northern Hemisphere for the first time.
The Global fresh produce grower will be partnering with AS Nestos on the initiative in Kavala, Greece, that will see the growth of plum varieties African Delight, Ruby Star, African Rose, Ruby Sun, Ruby Crisp and Sun Kiss.
According to Jupiter Group, the plum varieties are part of a breeding programme with Culdevco, a deciduous fruit licensor that licenses innovative varieties of plums, peaches, apples, pears and table grapes. The six varieties have been selected for their flavour, quality and likelihood to flourish in the prime surroundings of Kavala, Greece.
Jupiter Group expects to see sample in two years from the plants, which just arrived in Europe.
Migiva partners with Hazel: Migiva Group, a family-owned group of diversified companies in the Americas and owner of fresh produce grower-exporter Agricola Andrea, has entered into a partnership with Hazel Technologies Inc. to trial the post-harvest application Hazel for grapes on a commercial scale. Hazel helps prolong shelf-life, reducing dehydration and improving the fruit’s visual appearance.
The product is being trialed commercially this season on exports of Agricola Andrea’s table grapes from Peru destined for the UK and others in Asia and North America.
