Agriculture technology start-ups are once again being asked to gather their creative ideas and solutions and enter them into one of the industry’s most unique competitions: the 2022 Tesco Agri T-Jam.

The event features seed and early agri-tech inventors pitching their most thoughtful innovations to a panel judge, including a select audience of investors and agribusinesses. Entries in a number of categories are being accepted by Tesco and the World Agri-Tech Innovation Series until 26 June. The winner of the event will be chosen to earn a potential trial from Tesco with one of its supply chain partners, as well as getting feedback and mentoring by Tesco’s agricultural team.

“We are constantly on the lookout for new and exciting technologies to boost sustainability and efficiency across our supply chain, and ensure Tesco customers continue to benefit from nutritious, sustainable, and affordable food,” Natalie Smith, Head of Agriculture at Tesco says.

Tesco has identified a number of potential priority areas where it is looking for technologies, including:

  • Reducing GHG Emissions
  • Improving Soil Health & Resilience
  • Monitoring & Supporting Biodiversity
  • Water Quality & Water Use
  • IPM, Crop Health and Reducing Pesticides
  • Reducing Agricultural Waste and Agri Plastics
  • Reducing Crop Losses and Food Waste
  • Indoor & Vertical Farming
  • Data Analysis & Predictive farming
  • Robotics, Automation & Sensor Technology
  • Animal feed Alternatives
  • Improve Animal Health & Welfare

This is the fifth year of the Tesco Agri T-Jam, with big opportunities for start-ups who can show efficiently and sustainability initiatives to impress supply chain leaders. Overall, 10 start-ups will be selected after the application and vetting process to show off their innovations at the T-Jam pitch day on 19 September, one day before the two-day World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit begins. Those 10 will be invited to the show, which will take place before 900 international agribusiness leaders.

“The Tesco Agri T-Jam gives up-and-coming innovators a powerful opportunity to be seen by this high-profile retailer’s supply chain partners, as well as our global summit audience, and to make strategic connections that could significantly scale their operations,” Abigail Ryder, Programme Director for the World Agri-Tech Innovation Series, said. “We’re look forward to hearing from a diverse range of global innovators when the industry meets in person this September.”
