UK-based supplier BerryWorld received five Superior Taste Awards from judges at the International Taste & Quality Institute in Belgium for their strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.
BerryWorld achieved the honours among some stiff competition — some 15,000 food and drink products were strictly evaluated by some of the world’s top chefs and sommeliers.
Each berry variety was judged based on appearance, aroma, texture and taste. BerryWorld’s Jewel Raspberries, Berry World Midnight Blackberries, BerryWorld Sundown Blueberries, Sweet Eve 2 Strawberries and Eves Delight 2 Strawberries all earned awards with 2-stars.
“BerryWorld has always driven a strong focus on varietal innovation” says Adam Olins, chief executive at BerryWorld Group. “We are constantly investing in varietal development; you can never stand still. We truly believe in growing the berry world together and these awards are recognition of our commitment to pursue this vision.”
More than 200 members were selected at the International Taste & Quality Institute to judge the awards, many of whom are recognized in chef competitions or renowned by the Michelin Guide or Gault & Millau.
BerryWorld’s consistent efforts and practices have helped bring the best berries to market.
“During our 25-year journey in fresh produce, we have secured exclusivity to some of the best berry varieties in the world, giving us the opportunity to expand shopper repertoire and drive purchase frequency for our customers,” Olins says. “The foundation of our business, is our people and our product, not only do our berries have to taste fantastic, they must be sustainable too; delivering a high yield for growers, improved shelf life for customers and fantastic flavour for consumers.
“I would like to personally thank our growers and customers for their continued support and of course, our employees for their passion and dedication towards an ever-challenging category within fresh produce.”
