Many of Aldi’s price cuts may seem nominal, but in truth, the discount retailer has lowered them by 7% on 25% of its fresh produce to start 2024.
Those drops include more than 50 items, from berries, grapes, tomatoes and apples to its fresh salad range.
“This year we’re aiming to cut more prices than ever before – helping our customers access the lowest prices possible. We are committed to making healthy and varied diets affordable for all ,” says Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buyer at Aldi.
Aldi has spent big bucks to increase the quality of its fresh produce, investing £1.3 billion with British suppliers in 2023. Keeping prices low, Aldi is hoping to sway UK consumers into eating more healthy. Right now, the average UK adult only consumes five pieces of produce per day four times a week. To offset this barrier, Aldi compiled a set of recipes using different fruit and vegetables.
Many other retailers have been trying to keep pace, though Aldi has won the average shop wars against the bigger supermarkets every month for more than a year. Waitrose and Morrisons have both slashed prices on some items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, over the past week.
