Two varieties of berries from the BerryWorld Plus breeding programme earned awards for superior taste and two starts during the recent 2021 International Taste Institute Awards.
BerryWorld’s Diamond Jubilee/BerryWorld Gem and another commercial variety that has yet to be launched received acclaim from a panel of international chefs.
“This double award recognises our efforts to continuously bring superior quality berries to market all year round,” said Adrian Olins, Divisional CEO at BerryWorld Group.
The latest awards continue the honours for BerryWorld, which has scored nine awards for superior flavour, appearance, and texture from the International Taste Institute since 2018. They include the Sapphire/BerryWorld Jewel raspberry, BerryWorld Midnight blackberry from the Beekers Berries Breeding programme and several strawberry varieties from the Edward Vinson programme, including Sweet Eve; as well as blueberries like BerryWorld Twilight and BerryWorld Eureka.
The company says credit goes to research and development, along with longtime companies that have been central to the mission by investing in varietal development. BerryWorld runs trials in the UK and across the world, in countries such as The Netherlands and South Africa. Proud of its current products, it is also continually pushing to seek out innovativions.
“Whilst our current varieties are being well appreciated by the market, we are particularly optimistic about a number of recent releases across the berry patch which are showing game-changing characteristics,” Olins said. “Among these varieties, it is worth mentioning BerryWorld Eureka Sunrise, which is a significant step change and will revolutionise the blueberry market in the seasons to come.”
