Supermarket chain Aldi has put six staple vegetables and a key herb on sale for Easter at just 15p each.
The discount retailer, which has continually set the bar low on pricing of its fresh produce since its foray into the UK, made its Easter Super Seven even more of a bargain by dropping them from their original 19p price.
The current reduction is good on:
- White Potatoes (2kg)
- Carrots (1kg)
- Large Garlic Bulbs (each)
- Red and White Cabbage (each)
- Large Brown Onions (3 pack)
- Swede (each)
- Fresh Cut Rosemary (20g)
Aldi officials noted that “the incredible deals do not come at the cost of the growers. So, rest assured regardless of promotional activity in store, growers receive the same fair price as usual.”
The supermarket is the first of the major retailers in the UK to offer additional lower pricing on vegetables in the run up to Easter. As has been a pattern over the past year or more, that stake in the ground is usually followed by rivals trying to either price-match or one-up Aldi to both show they can compete on price and are committed to keeping their customers making healthy food selections.
Being lower on price than Aldi for an average basket shop has been a challenge for retailers across the UK, except for discounter Lidl. The latest Which? report, where Aldi again was named Cheapest Supermarket in the UK, showed that customers could save between £10 and £37 by shopping at Aldi over other grocery stores (excluding Lidl).
