Veg Power has added four new members to its advisory board as its continues its mission of trying to expand vegetable consumption in the UK.
Simon Conway, who chairs The British Tomato Growers Association, joins Tom Firth (Chair of IPA’s Sustainability Action Group),Tom Lindsay (Trustee of The Food Foundation) and Karen Schenstrom (Business Development Director at Evesham Vale Growers) as new appointees.
“I am excited to work alongside such a dedicated group of individuals to advance the cause of Veg Power,” says Conway, who has extensive horticulture experience. “It has never been so important to influence the diet of children to contribute to the future health of the nation.”
The four join Board members: Andy Porteous, Katie Palmer, Anne Heughan, Jo Ralling and Anna Taylor OBE in helping tackle what is a national crisis, where nearly 90% of children in the UK do not eat enough vegetables. More than half of parents not only struggle to get their kids to eat more produce but struggle to afford fresh produce. Enter the Veg Power team.
“Veg Power combines three areas of focus and fascination for me; public health, full system engagement, and creative thinking,” Firth says. “I look forward to supporting them in its mission to get more kids eating more vegetables right across the country.”
Karen Schenstrom, who has seen the growth of the alliance first-hand and the impact campaigns like Eat Them to Defeat Them have made, says: “Having been advisor to Veg Power for the past four years, I am truly honoured to now be joining the Board and look forward to being part of the next phase of our plans to expand our impact.”
As part of the transition, Baroness Rosie Boycott and Sir John Hegarty have moved from Board roles to become Veg Power Patrons.
